Researchers have discovered a pill which can treat male factor infertility.

Researchers have recently discovered that vitamins and antioxidiant pills can boost a man's fertility. A study in Australia revealed that the number of previously infertile couples getting pregnant was doubled after taking a fertility pill called Menevit. The trial involved 60 couples. Of those who took Menevit, there were 17 conceptions compared to only 4 conceptions in those couples who took a placebo.

The pill contained vitamin C and E, folic acid, garlic, lycopene, and zinc. These immune boosting ingredients can protect sperm from damage, for instance by sexually transmitted infections or through smoking.

Dr. Kelton Tremellen of the University of Adelaide, who conducted the research, said

'What this medication does is it gives the men a little bit of - it makes them feel good, they think that they're doing something for their wife's IVF cycle," he said.

"It's not just their wife or partner taking all the medication, having the operation etc - they're actually doing something positive. "Men often feel powerless as they watch their wives going through all the injections in IVF."

Dr. Anne Clark, from Australia's Fertility Society, said

'"To have a method of treating sperm issues rather than their partner having to go through a fertility treatment is fantastic.'

The drug company Bayer is going to sell Menevit to infertile couples.

There are other fertility supplements and pills which also contain an amino acid called l-carnitine, which helps with sperm formation and can improve the quality and maturity of sperm. Men who take this amino acid usually have sperm with better motility (ability to swim). They also produce embryos of better quality as the amino acid either reverses or stops DNA damage from occurring.

Grapeseed extract and other vitamins, such as those mentioned above, are antioxidant so they help prevent free radicals which damage the body (think how an apple goes brown after you bite into it: this is called oxidization - antioxidents prevent this process from happening). They prevent 'rusting' of the body's vital organs and slow down aging. They are great for reversing infertility.

Where Can I Get Male Infertility Pills?

If you want to try Menevit, talk to your doctor about when it will become available and whether you are a suitable candidate to recieve treatment. If you are interested in trying other vitamin therapies and antioxidants, these can be bought from health food stores, but it would be best to consult a qualified nutritionalist to see what your body is lacking in and which vitamins would be right for you.
