» beck79 - no wonder

so i started the ring about 3 months ago... wow... i've gained about 5 pounds all in the hips and stomach.. which i've never had a problem with before... and the mood swings are out of control!! my boyfriend was going to commit me, and i don't blame him. i've had sever abdomidal pains, and the periods are so heavy i don't want to leave the house. i pulled it out yesterday, and i already feel better. i've been on the pill a few other times and i never had side effects like these. it's so good to see im not alone, and i'm not crazy! thanks for the post

» espi - Nuva ring

I see everyone on here has an issue with weight gain, the only birth control method I had an issue with weight gain was depo. Which I am strongly thinking of getting back on, I have lost so much weight with nuva.

» gitlost - Nuvaring

Ok, so I know now im not going crazy! I went from a size 5 to near size 11 in such a short period of time.I am very active, so there is no excuse! Im bloated all the time, and always backed up too. I even feel nausious at times. This is my third month on the ring, and I just took it out,two weeks early. I have a problem with other birth controlls making me depressed, which the nuva ring has been good for, but I cant handle these other side affects.Any suggestions?

» jbling1982 - Nuvaring weight gain

My fiance thinks Im crazy, but i have been on the nuvaring for 1 1/2 years and I went from weighing 103 to 117. I'm getting married in 4 months and have tried to diet and exercise but cannot lose the weight. I have not put my ring back in and hope my hormones regulate before my wedding in Nov. Like the other women, hips and thighs and belly is where im gaining. Even my arms are fat. I have had a child and got down to 103 after she was born. I gained 20lbs on the depo-provera and couldn't lose the weight until 6 months later, I hope thats not the case with the ring. Anyone lose weight after stopping??? Anybody know of a better method, I'm going to use condoms until after the wedding? I'm so glad that this is happening to somebody else, I thought I was nuts!

» kekberg - weight gain.

In response to weight gain. posted by svs166:

I first used the ring about 3 years ago and gained 20 lbs while using it, also expieriencing the bloated feeling that you were describing. I tried the ring again about 2 months ago and once again gained alot of weight. There is no changes in my diet or excersize, so I am definetly blaming the weight gain on the birth control. I stopped using it 2 weeks ago and already lost 5 lbs. Other girls I have talked to said they also gained weight on the ring as well. Hope that helps!

» tehe0301 - nuvaring side effects

I have been using the nuvaring for three years, and have gained almost 30 pounds. I have also talked to my gyno about the weight gain and she just smiled and said, no... you are the blame for that one heidi, you should try dieting. I was for sure that the problem was the birth control, but it was the only thing I've ever used. I started taking it because I was having severe and irregular periods, so I thought this would help. Gradually my periods got better as far as bleeding, but I had tremendous bloating and cramps. I also slowly started getting really moody and snappy the week before my period. It got to the point where I was getting severely depressed and angry and short tempered, but I thought it was just PMS. I eat very healthy and work out typically 5-6 times a week. I am 5'8", and my weight before nuvaring was 130 lbs. I now weight almost 160 lbs. I have been off the ring for a little over a month now, and although I have only lost a few pounds, I feel 20 pounds lighter. I was constantly bloated and tired, I felt like an over-inflated balloon. I did not feel as hopeless and depressed before my last period, and I have not been as short-tempered. DO NOT trust your doctor about this method. I was fooled for THREE YEARS of my life. I am 22 years old, and up until recently I've trusted my doctor about birth control. Opt for a non-hormone birth control, hormones can be really unsafe for your body.

» jenjenjenjen - =(

They should make a ring for men. Why do we have to suffer? I was thinking of using the NuvaRing but after reading this, I see I'll probably be having the same problems as the pill. Well, thank goodness for condoms. =)

» p_ressler - Nuva Ring and several side effects

I have been on Nuva Ring for 9 months now, and within the 9 months I have gained approximately 25 lbs. I can't seem to ever catch a break from being hungry. Don't get me wrong, I love food and always have, but I have never been this hungry before. I have been on birth control for years, and have only gained maybe 10 lbs at the most on the other ones. I have a very low sex drive, have vaginal burning after sex, and I am very dry during sex which is weird considering that I have more than a normal amount of discharge. The only things that I can say that I like about the ring, is that my periods are the shortest ever, and it's only once a month. I am going back to the condom route, until I can lose some of this weight, and find a decent birth control again. Good luck to all of you ladies out there.

» okcgirl - Nuva Ring and several side effects

In response to Nuva Ring and several side effects posted by p_ressler:

After reading some of the messages about Nuva Ring, I found that I am experiencing a few of the same effects that you all are so it is a relief to know that I am not the only one with same things going on. And now I can tell my fiance that I am not crazy! I too have felt the moodiness and sometimes I start to cry for no reason, I feel angry a week before my period also and don't understand why. I have not gained alot of weight but I have not changed my eating habits actually started to eat better. But I have noticed that it is difficult to lose anything even a pound is hard to do. So I think that after this month I am going to not use it and see how it works out. But I hate to think of doing that because I really like not having to worry about taking a damn pill every day, this is more convientant

» larobsky - Side Effects Nuva Ring

I really thought I was crazy too. I'm 43 and started using the ring about 3 months ago. The first month went fine but then month 2 and month 3 started noticing the side effects. Sleeplessness, breast enlargement, vaginal itching, vaginal discharge, constipation, migraines and blurry vision. I started going on-line and reading so many women out there with so many side effects. These message boards are great to find out information. I took my ring out and I'm not going back!!!!
