» Heather376 - Nuva Ring
I've been on the Nuva Ring for a couple years now and I'm having a heck of a time losing weight. I've been working out & dieting and literally NOTHING comes off. Is anybody else having that problem? Is it from the Nuva Ring or could it be the fact that I just turned 30 so everything is just a pain in the butt now? :-)-- posted by Heather376

Nuva Ring can cause weight gain due to the body's reaction to the hormones, sort of like the pill. Not everyone gains weight from it, and many who use Nuva Ring as opposed to the pill report no weight gain whatsoever.Stress at your age is common, which can cause you to become a nervous eater. One of the best ways to lose weight is to cut out sodas, anything with white sugar or white flour, white rice, and of course move more. The best thing you can do for yourself is keep a journal of what you are eating and be sure to get exercise. You might be surprised what you put in your journal.

In response to QUESTIONS posted by amanda_shutt:
Tampon use should be okay, but be sure not to remove the Nuva Ring during placement or tampon removal. If you have any questions, you really should call your gynocologist. Of course, if your Nuva ring slips out when you are taking out your tampon, be sure to rinse it off and re-insert it within three hours so you don't lose your contraceptive protection.

» Admariano - Birth Control During Time Off Periods
Hello. Since this Suite is basically about infertility, I have moved the messages about Birth Control to a special area just for this discussion. Sometimes during infertility treatments, patients take time off, and they occasionally use a form of birth control during this time so that they can give their bodies a break. Thanks to everyone for this great discussion idea!-- posted by Admariano

I have been on the ring for almost 6 months and have gained about 10 pounds. I have been working out and dieting and can't seem to lose it. I haven't been able to find anyone who has had the same experience until now. I am going to call my dr. and hopefully she will change my prescription back to the birth control pills I had been on before. I am 31 and at first thought that it was just a slower metabolism, but now realize it's the NuvaRing.

» Admariano - The Site For Nuva Ring
The website for Nuva Ring is at http://www.nuvaring.com . Some people report no weight gain, but it is not unheard of completely. If you are sensitive to the hormones, it can cause hormones and PMS symptoms like cravings.-- posted by Admariano

In response to NuvaRing/Weight Gain posted by Hkay:
Since Nuva Ring is relatively new, they indicate that if you are sensitive to other forms of hormones, Nuva Ring will likely react the same way, but it is a lower-dose. On the website for nuva ring, it says weight gain is a reported side effect, as is changes in appetite. Be sure your weight gain is not caused by another more serious side effect, edema, which is severe water retention. Good luck with your birth control choices!

Yes, on the Nuvaring: you can use tampons, have sex, do everything you normally would do. Just make sure the ring doesn't come out--though it should be up far enough that it won't.

Me too. I've gained almost 40 pounds in two years. Perhaps not all of it is to blame on the ring, but I'm convinced it has something to do with it.
