» sxywlfe1971 - Still bleeding since 3/3/07 since my depo shot in March

In response to Still bleeding since 3/3/07 since my depo shot in March posted by 12know:

Took two Depo-Provera shots. After the second one, I began bleeding, and continued for 10 weeks. Had an ultrasound, then a vaginial ultrasound. Had to have surgery, opted for hysterectomy, b/c I have 2 children and don't want anymore. My insurance said that I had to have exploratory surgery. I had two cysts removed that were possibly malignant, and had to be cauterized to stop the bleeding. Within the next 11/2, I managed to gain about 65 pounds, did I mention that I have NEVER been above 150lbs, even full term. My dermatologist wanted me to have a blood test, b/c my face and back were painfully broken out with Acne. My DHEAS level was elevated, so I was sent back to my family doctor, then referred to an Endocrinologist. He said that I had PCOS and that it is just genetic. I had called the Depo Provera nurses hotline to ask them about my excessive bleeding. She stated that the shots had never caused that. I am now horribly overweight, losing my beautiful hair, acne is under control, for now. I want to find out about the law suits against this dangerous drug. cyoung0458@yahoo.

I've tried just about every kind of birth control pill, patch, or shot, and they all give me either long or continuous periods and make me moody. Depo gave me my period for months straight, I got checked for so many things, everything was fine, so it had to be the shot. When I don't use birth control (aside from condoms, which I always always always use) then I'm fine, but those pills and shots make me and my body crazy. A friend of mine (neither of us are doctors) were talking, and it seemed like people whose periods are naturally shorter than the average or longer than the average (my cycles are usually 5 or 6 weeks, instead of 28 days) have a lot more side effects. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but with hormones linked to so many other things, it makes some sense to me. Getting off of depo worked for me, but its good that you got everything checked out, just to be sure. Anyway, you're not alone in having the 'continuous bleeding' side effect.

I've been on the depo shot since I was 14 and I'm now 21. Recently I haven't been able to get in the mood to "do it". Could this be a side affect of the shot?

» Kari07 - Depo/Pregnancy

My mom decided to put me on the depo shot when I was 15 years old because she couldn't trust me, I was living with my boyfriend at the time. I had a period for a month straight after the shot was injected. I was on the shot until a little bit after my 18th birthday. I got off of the shot in April of this year, and has had 2 periods every month until this month. I just started my period, and it is so heavy to the point where I am having to change my tampon about 7 times a day. It's been 3 days today, and it has me a little scared. I have also been trying to start a family of my own, and nothing has been successful. I don't know what to do. I am the oldest of four children and two out of the four, already has a child on the way, my 16 yr old brother, & 17 year old sister. It kind of hurts my feelings, does anyone know what I could do? Please let me know. Thanks.

» steph11907 - I bled continuously from march 6, 2005-july 19,2006

I got the Depo shot in March of '05 and started bleeding about a day later I continued bleeding extremely hard for the next year and a half I wish there were something I could do to help get rid of this drug and not make it available to the public they did not even tell me it was a possible side effect when I go the shot as a result of the non stop bleeding I began passing out and having seizures I also suffered extreme headaches, drowsiness, weakness and dizziness I was in high school and ended up being homebound for a year as well as the discomfort of being sick and homebound I also went to numerous doctors, specialists and took tons of medicines to try to regulate things all it did was mess me up more. this stuff really messed my life up! I wish people knew. I wish there were something I could do... maybe by getting my story out there I can. My family has advised me to consider talking to a lawyer about medical malpractice suit, I'm not sure if I want to go through all of that I have lost enough of my life already, what do you think??

» miss_mimi06 - Can I still have children????

I got on the depo shot when I was 16 or 17 years old. I was on it for a year and had my period the entire time. I am 20 years old now. My husband and I almost never use condoms and I have not been on any birth contol since, but I still have not become pregnant and never have been. I'm afraid I can't have kids. Should I go to a doctor to find out for sure? If so does anyone know of one in the Shawnee or Semiole area?

» Nicky380 - Depo shot

I have been having the depro shot now for two years. Although some side affects have been to my advantage i.e. no periods the disadvantages do out way the advantages by a long shot. When I started taking depro I was a healthy 9st women and energetic. After just 3 months my periods stopped and I gain at least a stone in weight, became tired and had a very low sex drive. Now me and my partner want to start trying for a baby and feel uncomfortable about the length of time it may or may not take to have a child. My last depro shot was due in september which I didn't have, but I still have side effects and wonder who long these will last, oh and by the way I walk two miles every day eat as healthy as possible and I am now 12 and a half stone.

» jsilly - Depo shot

In response to Depo shot posted by Nicky380:

I like to call my experience with Depo as Deprivation of Life shot. It is the worst thing I ever did to myself. I actually suffered from migraines since 14 years old and my regular doctor put me on this shot in late 2003 and received it two more times. My side effects were my hair started falling out, I had my period heavy for over a year (so heavy I had to use a super tampon and overnight maxi-pad every day for a freaking year), and most importantly I lost my sex drive and my cervical mucus so sex became painful. I also gained so much weight, especially around my stomach and no matter how much I exercise and eat right I can't get rid of it. This was just perfect because I got married in May 2004 and had my period on my honeymoon and had zero desire to have sex. OH and the cherry on top is that a side effect is migraines!!!!!! Thinking back I wish I sued my doctor!

Here is a wonderful tidbit that my idiot doctor failed to tell me and Depo-Provera's website doesn't tell you:

Depo-Provera is also used with male sex offenders as a form of chemical castration as it has the effect of drastically reducing sex drive in males.

Yep!!! And I'm sorry but I'm proof that it's not just males. It is now 4 years later and I'm still not the same. I'm also trying to get pregnant now and it hasn't happened yet..if this shot ruined that for me too I think I'm going to go beserk. When I couldn't understand what was happening to me I went online and there are support groups for this horrible shot! Please if you are on it, don't use it! Find another birth control! Who knows how many repercussions will come from this shot!

Here are some articles but trust me just google Depo-Provera and words like Horrible and Castration and you will see the flood of websites warning you:
