I was fine for almost 2 years, but just seemed a lot more "lubricated." But the past few months I 've develped a horrid swamp smell! I'm clean! I went to the obgyn to see if there is an infection--nope. I am getting off the ring.

I thought it was just me, getting fat and depressed. But hearing some of the stories on here, maybe the Ring is to blame. I too have been on the ring for about 2 years. Recently, I've no sex drive at all and that is very unusual for me. Gained a ton of weight...almost 40 pounds in 2 years! Yikes! I'm angry/moody a lot. And I've developed a swampy nasty smell, that the gyn can't explain (no infection). I'm getting off the ring. I'm going to try YAZ: any one have any comments on its side effects?

I turned into a crazy woman on the pill. Tried 4 different kinds including Yaz which is supposed to have mood stabilizing properties. When I say crazy woman I'm talking about me going from my optimistic happy go lucky self to an argumentative, frustrated, angry, crying for 1/3 of the day, can't get out of bed mess. It was like having an out of body experience. I was determine to find a method that would work for me so I endured 4 trys with different pills throught last winter and this past spring. All of this was in an attempt to control heavy menstral bleeding due to uterine fibroids. But after 4 tries I went ahead and had a myomectomy (fibroid removal surgery). I've been doing well so far. I wasn't sexually active (ever) until after the surgery and I'm with my second partner right now. We've been getting really close and our intimacy is a huge part of it. "Working out" condoms is a necessary evil, but I'd really like to do without it.

So I am on day 2 of the ring and so far so good. The pill only took 2-4 days to take me to crazy angry depressed woman land. So far what I've felt with the ring is feeling slightly more tired, and a weird very very mild headache/pressure feeling that is sort of like a chin strap frome one ear to the other and some pressure under my eye. When I lean over the feeling under my jaw turns into mild nausea...no big deal thought. My appetite is less but when I do eat I don't get teh feeling that I'm full and I'm thirsty. (So I've been trying to drink a lot before I eat to avoid gaining weight). My lower belly doesn't hurt, but I can feel my insides moving when I move around. My discharge is more watery, but so far no change in odor. And I've had a lot more gas than usual.

Reading about your experiences has been helpful to me as I feel out how my body likes this. Doctors can tell you waht is likely to happen, but only you know what is actually going on with your body and whether or not you can tolerate it. So far so good for me.

Three months ago I asked my doctor if he could write me a prescription for the birth control patch. He didn't want to write a prescription to cost me money, so he gave me 2 samples of Nuva Ring. A side note: I was on Marvelon (pill) for a long time before I started using Nuva Ring. I just wanted something more convenient than remembering to take a pill every day.

Anyway, first month on the Nuva Ring was great. Second month was great too. No side effects, less headaches. So last Friday (Nov 9th) I took the Ring out. That night my boyfriend and I had sex. Let me tell you, it has never been so dry and painful before in my life. I couldn't even really enjoy it, as sad as that is to say. So then on Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, I got my period, as expected. All week though, I've been kind of itchy down there and it feels like I have all these scratches. Exactly like some of you have described. This morning I put my 3rd Ring in and went to work as usual. I noticed this afternoon that my period was a dark brown color instead of the deep red it usually is. Then I noticed the smell. Yeah, so I took the Ring out tonight. I'm going to take a month's break from using any form of birth control (other than condoms) and then I'll be going back to Marvelon.

It's too bad because the Ring is just so much more convenient.

» mmdelia - nuvaring - question first time user

Hi everybody, wonder whether nr functions well when too early input inside. I usually have some red spots before the actual bleeding for the period, and this month (the first time I took it!) I misunderstood the signs: instead of the bleeding there were only red spots. Now there is no bleeding at all, but breasts and stomach show same painful signs as before my normal period, which means it will come soon. (?)
bottomline: i input it too early, before actual period. therefore, question is: what should I go? is the normal period coming? am I protected? I am now in the 4th day of using the ring. tomorrow I will call my doctor, but maybe you could help me to sleep weel tonight :-)

its bacterial vaginosis. It smells , its thick discharge pretty nasty. It will not go away so i decided that it has to be from the nuva ring. i took it out on saturday and will not put another one in this coming saturday. i have been treated 3 times in a row because this bv wont go away, and my doctor telling me its not from the ring. my breast are really tender constantly and getting bigger by the day. feels like cuts yes, eww

I too had a similar experience. Sometimes my period stops with Nuva and other times I have a really long period. I'm not sure why though.

Hello, Ive been on Nuva Ring for 3 yrs now and i didn't really have any major problems at first. I had the slight smelly discharge and mood swings, but now i have no sex drive at all and i hate it. Recently i went to the doctor because i noticed an irritated area where my nuva ring was sitting inside me, so i went to the doctor and she said it was just an irritated, inflammed piece of skin but i can't stand it! Im switching BC but im not sure what to yet. If you have any suggestions let me know please! thanks

I just recently had an abortion and my doctor said that it would be good to use the NuvaRing to prevent me from getting pregnant again....but from what i've read i dont think i should....any suggestion on what type of birth control i should use?

I used the ring for several months about a year ago after an abortion and I loved it. I had had severe emotional problems with every pill I tried as well as with the patch (plus I got a rash from the patch). The ring seemed to be the perfect solution. Then I stopped using it as I was no longer sexually active. Three weeks ago I started it again. Four days before it was supposed to come out, I starting itching really bad around the opening of my vagina and inside the lips. I thought it was from soap, so I completely stopped using soap there, but it worsened. The itching, swelling, and redness moved all the way down to my perinium as well. Finally last night, the 20th day of having it in, I suddenly thought what if it was caused by the ring, so I immediately took it out and went to sleep. When I woke up this morning the itching, redness, swelling, and discomfort were COMPLETELY GONE!! So, now I guess I can't use the ring anymore, and it's on to find something else... Any suggestions? P.S. If anyone wants to talk to me about the ring before using it or if you are using it and have any weird side effects, feel free to email me - caramac at gmail.com
