» serenityaaliyah - Does Nuva Ring work without big problems?

Ok, I just started Nuva Ring. It is my last resort for Birth control..because I will never do Depo because I've seen the huge weight gain of people. I just wanted to know if it works. You wanna know something kinda funny. I've been on birth control for like 4 years, but i've never trusted it so I've still never had sex without a condom. I'm just scared it's not gonna work. I've tried all different types of pills, the patch, and this. Most of the pills never work because I always got intermittent bleeding so the doctor said it was too low of hormones..so I never trusted that. How do you know if it's working? How do you know if your protected? I don't want to get pregnant and i'm always scared it will not work so I always have had my boyfriend use condoms. I just want liberation, but I don't know. How has Nuva Ring protected you? Has anyone gotten pregnant while using birth control?

No one can really say in advance whether you would react or not. If you look at the patient information sheet that comes with the contraceptive, it will tell you a list of people who are more likely to have reactions and whether or not it is suitable for you.

Then if you'd like to try it, you can always stop using it if it causes a problem.

» kela55 - Acne Side Affects

In response to anything posted by ashton2487:
I am on my third ring (third month) and I think it has increased my acne. I am in my mid 20's so it is definately not a puberty issue. It actually has caused cysts, but I am prone, so you never know. I also experienced severe moodiness...at times. I also had spotting the first month, every day, but it was bareable. The ring does not bother my husband (he has felt it at times, but not a big deal) but it did come out twice during intercourse! I enjoy the freedom of not having to take the pill. The spotting did stop after the first month, the moodiness is going away but the acne is not. Again, I am prone, but it definatly appears to have made it worse. It is also kind of expensive since it has no generic and with my insurance I had to pay a deductible first which was slightly pricey. Overall I am giving it a try because it works, I can't feel it, there is no discomfort or nausea, and I don't have to think about birth control for 3 weeks out of each month!

» Ashis91085 - Nuva Ring

I have been using Nuva Ring since August of 2006. I absolutely love it. I do not and have never felt it inside of me & if you are like me...one who does not easily remember to always take the pill at the SAME EXACT TIME ever day, it is a wonderful advance in birth control. When I was on the pill I would frequently forget to take it & have to take two at a time. This would make me horribly ill and I used to say I just wanted something that wouldn't make me sick. In August of 2005 my then current gyno put me on Depo prevera. the entire time I was on this I was happy. I didn't have to take something everyday at the same time, all I had to do was remember to get a shot once every three months (which was wonderful). It wasn't until the last month of depo before my yearly exam that i talked to my best (girl) friend who I had referred to get depo. She said to me "It was convenient, but I NEVER wanted to have sex." Until she shared that with me I had never put two and two together, but looking back at that time it was totaly the truth. I literally NEVER wanted to have sex. Since I switched to the Nuva Ring that side affect has completely gone away. With the Nuva Ring I rmember once a month to get the new ring but during the month it is "business as usual." lol, I still get in the mood regularly and it is just as convenient as the depo. I would DEFINITELY recommend the Nuva Ring to anyone who asked me about birth control.

In response to Does Nuva Ring work without big problems? posted by serenityaaliyah:

I have been on Nuva Ring since August 2006 and I have never used a condom with my boyfriend of 5 years since I stated taking it and I am still not pregnant. You talk about bleeding in between doses with other methods and I just want you to know that has never happened to me (with the pill or any other contraceptive I have used) so maybe your case would be different, but for me, not using a condom is not a problem. Actually, I choose to keep changing the Nuva Ring every 28 days (4 full weeks instead of 3 full weeks) so that I don't get my period at all (well 3xs per year just to clean myself out, but not every month) so I would definitely recommend it to you or anyone else asking me about birth control. If you have any other questions/comments/concerns, feel free to hit me up at Ashis91085@yahoo.com, best of luck to you!

In response to Side Effects of Nuva Ring posted by maylene502:

Hey girls have you ever tried taking out the ring during intercourse? It can be out for up to 3 hours after which you are on your own for birth control. I had the burning and itching after and during intercourse but i did some research and now i take it out. You just rinse with warm water and put back in within 3 hours. Do not let it get past the 3 hours.

Hi, I just started the Nuva ring, this is my second dose. I have noticed a sour smell that I really don't like. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any suggestions? Thanks!!

In response to Nuva Ring Smell? posted by Dancer2:

I've never had any type of smell, although I have notice an increase in the thickness of my vaginal sucretions. It does not smell...although I do use alot of soap and Summer's Eve. I've been on the ring for almost a year and the only problem I have is during intercourse I take it out because my fiance feels the ring.

» 54Sarah - 16 months on Nuva

I've been on the Nuva Ring since October 2005 and I love it! I was on the patch before, but didn't like the way it always got dirty around the edges like an old band-aid, then left a residue when I took it off. The Nuva has worked great for me - no pregnancy, no side effects, my husband doesn't notice it, and my periods are actually shorter than they were before, plus being very reliable. I haven't had trouble with spotting, mood swings, or strange smells.

I've been on Nuva for about 4 months now and so far I like it. My boyfriend does feel it and I never thought of taking it out during intercourse, I will try that. What I was wondering is, are you still covered during your ring free week or do you have to use a back up method?
