» pink_82484 - Having NO side affects to the Nuva Ring

In response to anything posted by ashton2487:
First off, I would like to say that I have worked in a retail chain pharmacy for 5 years, so I kind of have an insiders insight on a lot of things, medication wise.
I have been using the nuva ring for 8 months now, and I absolutely love love love it!!! I would recommend it to any and every woman!! I have had absolutely no side affects at all. In fact, my periods used to be 6 days long, and now they are 1 to 2 days and extremly light. I have asked my doctor to make sure that short light periods are ok, and he jokes with me saying, 'you're complaining???' I have little to no cramps either.
The only thing I would say is, to stick with it for atleast 3 months. For me, the first month was kinda uncomfortable because I was thinking about it too much...so you notice it more. When you start to get used to it, you can't even feel it....like wearing a bra, you don't even notice. Another very minor thing, the nuva ring may induce more mucous secretions. Not disgustingly more, or anything, just a little.
The best part about the nuvaring is that you put it in (equally gross as using a tampon, for those of you who are grossed about the route of administration) and leave it in for 3 weeks. Another pro is that exact placement does not matter as far as effiency goes. If it is in, it is working. Which leads me to my next point... It works by slowly releasing hormones directly to your inside girl parts. This reaction makes the mucous at the cervix thicker, therefore preventing the penetration of sperm into the uterus or going farther to fertilize an egg in the fallopian tubes. this is the reason for the increased production of the mucus I mentioned earlier.
Some people think it will 'get lost'...this is not going to happen...this is the same reason as why tampons cannot get lost...there isn't anywhere for it to go. When inserted, ring or tampon, the cervix acts like a wall to stop it...so no need to worry over that either!!!

Also, to answer some elses question, it does not start working as soon as you put it in. I think the literature says continual use for 7 days. It also depends if you are switching from another form of birth control. If and when you get your nuva ring from the pharmacy, read the literature insided the package, it will tell you specifics!!!

I know there is a lot of extra info in here, but oh well, better to be over informed than the opposite!!!
Thanks

» sweetanik - My Experience has been Wonderful

In response to Having NO side affects to the Nuva Ring posted by pink_82484:
I am at the end of my second cycle using the Nuvaring and I just love it. I used to spend all my time freaking out that I could be pregnant and did several pregnancy tests per month just to make sure. For the first time in a long time I have pasted 2 months without worry... oh, the freedom! I have been lucky enough to be one of the ladies who actually lost weight once I started the ring, and am feeling vibrant and healthy, with a full on sex-drive.

I do have the additional discharge... but a friend made an interesting observation (probably wrong - but interesting) that the ring might be adding pressure on the g-spot and that could explain the discharge?! Wouldn't that be great! lol!

I never took the pill for more than a few weeks because I found it made me sick - so the freedom of finally being able to be intimate with my very patient BF (it has been 4 years of condoms!) may be what is driving my weightloss, and great mood... but all I can say is I love the ring.

Anik

» maylene502 - Side Effects of Nuva Ring

I was prescribed Nuva Ring June of this year. Initially it bothered me because I can really feel its presence. But I got used to it eventually that I don't feel that it's there. Although I don't feel anymore the presence of nuva ring inside me, I had noticed some problems that I would say are its side effects which started a couple of months from the time I started. I always feel sleepy and sluggish during daytime, I experienced light to moderate pain during intercourse, my lubrication had lessened, and recently, burning & itching and I feel like the inside of my vagina was badly scratched. The pain that I feel recently during intercourse is something like a cut on the skin treated with rubbing alcohol. So I decided to stop using the ring and switched to a pill just a few days ago. I hope the symptoms that I felt with the use of the ring will go away very soon.

» TJ0927 - Nuva Ring Side Effects!!!

I thought the idea of the ring was awesome. I have 5 children and was on some form of birth control every time. I have switched pills they either make me sick or I get pregnant. I have had an IUD, and that was a nightmare. I had to quit my job because I was always cramping. I am currently using the ring. I am not liking it so much now. I don't have the dryness problem that some others do. I have the lack of drive problem. And when I do want to make love to my husband, I won't have an orgasm. Which is strange because I have NEVER had that problem. My husband thinks he is doing something wrong, when he's not. I don't like being with him sexually in fear that I won't have an orgasm, he is beating himself up over this. I want to just take it out and throw it away. But I can't get pregnant again. I almost died last time. I am so scared that this problem will only get worse or may become permanent. If there is anyone who can suggest a different type of BC any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

» trevi02 - Nuva Ring and BV

Has anyone experienced any increased risk of getting bacterial vaginosis while on nuva ring. I also had the same problems when I was on the OrthoEvra patch and I am trying to figure out the cause. It seems to never go away completely and i have slight pain with intercourse. Im wondering if switching to pills would do any justice. Please help

» ReadingUp - Nuva Ring mood changes/bleeding

Many forms of birth control never worked for me, side effect prone
also history of cycle getting screwball for timing

Nuva Ring had been working more or less regularly for almost a year now
with just occasional spotting and longer menses time

BUT the mood changes have been worse than anything else I have been on
Anger to depression, and I hit someone in the face and smashed things in the second month, after I realized it was the birth control I controlled myself better, but it is still terrible

The physician I see off the record recommended trying out the skip the period method so that I do not go from hormones to nothing to try to alleviate mood shift associated to drop in hormones

This has caused prolonged neverending bleeding
it is heavier last longer, and never quite stops although i know it should be over by the strangeness of it

where do you find the best medium?
I believe that not allowing a break before replacing hormones means there has been no high spike at the right time to stop the bleeding and heal inside

so....mood changes...or forever bleeding?

» mag4200 - nuva ring - amazing!

I've been using the nuva ring for several months now. I think its amazing, and i always forget that i have it in. When i started using it, i didn't tell my husband the first time, just to see if he would notice, and he didn't notice anything. (make sure you use other contraceptive when switching!)

I was on the pill for about 5 years before i started nuva ring, and i hated it. I always forgot to take the pill and i was always worried about getting pregant. Most people don't know, but with the pill, it needs to be taken aroudn the same time everyday to be the most effective. The nuva ring took so much stress off me cause i didn't have to remember to do anything but once a month. (and they give you little in and out stickers to put in your daily planner).

I see alot of people complaining about the nuva ring on here. The nuva ring isn't for everyone. Each person is made different and react to different types of birth control. I think whichever birth contorl works best for you, you should use that. I didn't have any side effects, moodiness, long periods, etc. BUT.. for people like me, who always forget the pill, try the nuva ring to see if it works, and if not, you can always switch back to your other method of birth contorl.

Overall, i think the nuva ring is amazing!
